I think Morgan and Chuck couldn’t have made my 4AM alarm better. I spent the morning with these two walking around the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C. and Old Town Alexandria capturing their engagement photos, and let me tell you, it was such a fun time. I didn’t even feel like I got less sleep than usual (it was probably the Starbucks though, let’s be honest).
Jessica and Jeremy’s Harrisonburg, VA Wedding was full of unexpectedly beautiful weather, smiles all around, sunflowers, and singing. Their ceremony and reception, held at Weaver’s Mennonite Church, was a gorgeous service that consisted of not only Jessica singing to her new husband Jeremy, but Jessica’s parents serenading the audience as the two performed a sand mixing ceremony. (In case you missed their engagement session, you can find it here!)
An iconic moment that occurred throughout the reception was a speech made by Jessica’s father; when describing all the different people that have affected Jessica throughout her life, he added another book to her arms for her to carry. After adding a large stack of books onto her arms, he replaced the stack with the only book that should shape one’s life: the Bible. This moment affected me more than any other father-daughter speech I’ve been able to hear. Out of all the people, the circumstances, the memories that we face leading up to marriage and security with Christ and our partner, the only thing that really matters to live off of is not our parent’s expectations, not even our partner’s expectations; but the words and wisdom that come from a relationship with Jesus.
Being a wedding photographer gives me the privilege of capturing two people stand before God (as well as their friends + family) and declare their commitment to one another. I may be a little biased, but I basically have the best job in the world.
